STRUGGLE

I wrote this piece because my mom had to struggle in order for me and my brothers to live a comfortable life.

Much has been said about the black people's struggle over the course of history, but that struggle only began when races met for the first time. Before that each race was at peace with itself for the longest of time with their own internal problems. However as far as we can remember in the history of human beings, long before black or Jewish people's struggles the woman has been struggling from the beginning of humanity. Her pain has continued within all the races of this planet with no possible end in sight. As the world has become more peaceful and more aware of human rights her struggle has been slowly recognized and as a result gradually addressed.

In recent times visual media such as television and now the internet with YouTube and other online visual media America has become more of a reality show for the rest of the world to see. By far USA is the most entertaining show on earth. They will never be the best in soccer but they will always be the best at entertaining us by showing the world how humans relate with each other on every level and aspect of life. One such area that I found to be a true example of the history of women on this planet is the life of one Hillary Rodham Clinton. Her public life is a linear example of the female struggle in a nutshell.

Let me tell you a little bit about her story. Born and raised at a time when women were mostly expected to be stay home mothers, she chose to pursue a life alongside men in the professional world. The majority of people know her life starting from being President Bill Clinton's wife as the first lady. One of my favorite comedian Bill Burr (also one of the greatest comedians of all time) has a joke where he questions how Hillary made a lateral move from being a first lady to a Senator all of a sudden. The punch line being that her becoming Senator is like Tom Brady's wife all of a sudden becoming the next quarterback of the Rams. Insinuating that both women's only qualifications for the job would be by association to their husbands and not by merit. It's a great joke because it's funny but only if you know Hillary from being the first lady. However her life before being first lady is more worthy of her Senate seat than that joke implies.

She worked very hard to achieve her own success. Due to that success for a long period of time while Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas Hillary earned way more money than him from her job in the law firm she worked. These were the 70s and 80s, a time when women's pay grade was lower than that for men even though both would be doing the same job. How great of an achievement was this? For a woman to be out performing a man who was Governor during this period in time? No one talks about this because the female struggle is designed in that way.

The history of women also shows that they don't get the recognition they deserve. As far as human history has been documented every human was born from a woman's womb and raised by her til that human was capable enough to fend for themselves. Obviously there are very few exceptions to this reality. Case's when the mother wasn't there to raise her child, but she was still there to give birth to the baby. The one person on the planet who brings our species to life never gets that ultimate recognition. Michael Jordan has a statue in Chicago as a sign of the ultimate recognition. Mount Rushmore is also there as a sign of the ultimate recognition to those four presidents. Both these examples are because of the greatness that was achieved by the people the statues represent but what could be greater than the gender that brings to life the men who achieved that greatness? There is no statue of a woman in salute of her greatness because her ability is dismissed as nature. Maybe so but it's a remarkable ability nonetheless and only her alone is capable of such an ability.

After the creation and nurturing of the child the female struggle continues. Women had to be dependent on men for food and shelter for the longest of time and because of this they were treated like second class citizens. So she had to do something to address this because men did not look like they were going to change their ways voluntarily. History has also shown that whenever a woman goes about creating her own greatness especially in a field that was typically dominated by men she will have to be prepared to confront and fight some of them because for some reason her greatness is never tolerated without an epic fight. Hillary was not going to be an exception to this cardinal rule. She chose to run for President Of The United States and a fight was waiting in the form of “The Benghazi Hearings” and “The Emails” plus anything else the Republicans could swing her way. Yet before she had to go toe to toe with the best that the Republicans had to give she had to endure a challenge to her struggle by another group that has also had to overcome their own struggle the black race.

Her failed presidential bid against Barack Obama was another example of the female struggle. Even though women are the original and longest serving oppressed group, black people, the number two oppressed group of all time had to overcome before the woman could. So in true female unfortunate fashion she had to fall back and take the stereotypical female job title of all time, Secretary (of State) to Obama's presidency though the job itself is not typical of the office secretary. She did what she had to do and kept the fight alive because women keep going even after a heartbreaking disappointment. They're strong like that. This wasn't the first time she had to pick herself up from a major disappointment due to a man's actions. The first time was at the hands of her husband Bill.

Wedding vows are supposed to mean something to those who choose to get married yet divorce happens so often it should be included in those vows. Women have been dealing with male infidelity since before they had a right to object. In a marriage forgiveness is always emphasized. Mainly because transgressions are inevitable. The majority of people are always quick to praise forgiveness. Yet in reality it takes a really strong person to be able to forgive someone who has wronged you. The irony being the majority are not strong enough. Forgiving someone who cheated on you is almost impossible to do for men because a man's ego is about as big as The Notorious B.I.G. and we all know he was the illest! So when Bill Clinton cheated on his wife. Hillary made the hardest possible choice she could make in that situation. She forgave him. The reactions from people varied.

The most astounding reaction was of people who chastised her for forgiving Bill and went on to suggest she was staying with him for her own selfish reasons thereby also implying her forgiveness wasn't genuine. Women can't seem to catch a break. She was the victim in this unfortunate situation. Yet she still was put to task during the aftermath. That's what women go through in their lives. She gets raped and then blamed for wearing those clothes that “invite” rapists. In any case Hillary weathered that storm and moved on with her life with Bill. Women do this all the time they forgive and endure the pain and move on with life. Despite all this she went on to be a Senator and then Secretary of State. Both positions very difficult to get if you are a man and even more so if you are a woman. She didn't stop there she went on to run for POTUS twice.

Back to her struggles with the Republicans. Now with Hillary's road to the White House as clear as Usain Bolt's path to a 100 meter victory the Republicans had been in full attack mode. As with any great woman in our history a certain group of men always have to do their best to delay her greatness. An interesting example of Hillary's greatness is the Benghazi situation. The general public can appear as if they know exactly what it was about. Maybe they do but most probably they don't. Those who know exactly what happened are those who were directly involved. What we all know for a fact is the outcome which was that Hillary was put to task about it and Republicans did everything in their power to bring her down, but they failed.

She answered questions of all types from top Republicans all men for 11 hours straight and came out on top. This is what we the public know for a fact. We now have to ask ourselves. This woman whether guilty or innocent went toe to toe with a gang of her political enemies for 11 hours non stop and with all these men's intelligence combined she still managed to outsmart them at every turn what does this say about her?

I thought about this for a long time and came to this conclusion. Firstly, if she was innocent and thus being falsely accused as well as being subjected to this gruesome ordeal and yet came out of it not looking frustrated and dejected then this woman's strength is beyond reproach. Secondly, if she was guilty and these men with all their evidence and intellectual capacity failed to prove her guilt with only herself there to defend herself for 11 straight hours then this woman's intelligence is also beyond reproach. So either way I look at the Benghazi story all I see is a woman who can stand inside a burning house that burns to the ground and she comes out unscathed just like Khaleesi herself from Game Of Thrones.

Then along came Donald Trump. Every woman has had to deal with a “Donald Trump” in their lives one way or the other. A man who will do anything to get what he wants from a woman. He will lie and he will cheat. He will brag about his possessions. He will do just about anything to get in bed with you no matter how embarrassing it may be for him. He will even grab you by the crouch just to get you. He will do absolutely anything. It's an inevitable experience in a woman's journey to have to deal with such a man at least once and Hillary was no exception.

Nothing seems to stop this woman. How can anyone not root for her? Is this not what a hero's story is made of? As we observed her journey the assumption was women would rally behind her propelling her to win the White House then she would have made more history and lived happily ever after. The female struggle has no such ending as happily ever after. The struggle will just move on to the next unimaginable challenge with a certain group of men lying in wait to make it even more challenging. Yet as always the woman will endure the pain and move on with her life. Mainly because a woman is strong like that and also because what other choice does she have?
